(Side note, if anyone is interested in the entire Jeep + Trailer matching package as a fully functional turn-key off grid rig, contact me and we’ll talk about discounting for purchasing both. Jeep has 42,000 miles and is a 2015 Rubicon Hard Rock with solar, RTT fridge, partner stove, water tank, comms, and so much more.)
The trailer was purchased new in March of 2017 from Hiker Trailer, Indiana factory. This was the first special order black on black diamond trailer that Hiker produced. It’s also the first with the rear swing out tire carrier. It has since been one of their more popular combinations. They were initially cautious about building a black squaredrop due to heat, but as long as the roof was kept white for reflection, the sides had minimal impact on overall temperature.
Hiker base extreme off road with added factory options including:
1,500lbs dry from factory. With all added equipment and a full water tank, I estimate about 22-2,300lbs. I have not officially weighed it for expedition loadout.
Black diamond plating on ALL sides, including back.
2 x3 Black steel off road frame
33” tires - owner upgraded to 33” Nitto Trail Grapplers with Jeep Rubicon Hard Rock black and silver wheels.
Two side sliding windows with screens
Two side entry doors with windows
Two screen doors
Overhead three speed Fantastic fan / vent with reverse
LED trim light around Fantastic fan
Interior under floor storage
Roof Cross Bars (2) - have been Line-x coated by owner.
Lock N Roll articulating hitch, safety chains
21 gallon on board, skid plate covered, water tank with locking fill port
Rear spare tire swing arm with matching 33” Nitto Trail Grappler tire on matching Jeep Rubicon Hard Rock black rim
Long soft Ride Leaf Springs w/ Shocks - suspension was upgraded by Hiker Trailer to add two additional leaf springs to each side for additional weight carrying capacity. This has negated some of the “soft ride” aspect as does anything when you add more weight capacity.
Climate Right 5000 Heating and Cooling unit with wireless remote and wired thermostat - Hiker is prepped for heat and AC pass through (requires shore power or a generator to run this unit). NOTE: This unit was used once and store inside after. For what I use it for, I did not see the need to lug around the Climate Right for Heat / AC. I installed a propane furnace for winter camping but either can be used. See also the Heating and Cooling section below.
Electric trailer brakes with 7 pin connector
Surface Mount LED Trailer lights
Two rear shackle mounts with red shackles
16” Galley depth with two shelves
Two front jacks - replaced 6/1/19 both brand new
Propane mount - has been Line-x coated by owner.
11lb propane tank
2 inch rear, frame-mounted hitch
Standard front overhead bins, rear galley wall bins
The cabin is walled off completely from the galley to minimize insect entry. There is a small, locking pass through to the galley.
Additional equipment added by owner:
The goal of this build was off-the-grid, long term sustainability.
Complete Solar Array - more power than needed resulting in never needing to plug the trailer into shore power (although you can if you want). This trailer will run a fridge / freezer, wireless camera system, water pump, inverter, lights, and charge electronics without ever needing to plug in. Total off-grid package.
Battery Bank -
Two 6V VMAX Solar Tank AGM batteries wired at 12V. This bank provides 225 amp hours of power and is specifically designed to handle the constant charge / discharge cycles associated with solar input.
VMAX TANKS 12 Volt Battery 7 stage Smart Charger (15amp), wired to shore power input / pass through
6 panel rocker switch control center. (Controls under frame lights, wireless rear camera, water pump, galley lights and has two open usable spots. Also has two USB charge ports and a volt meter.
Bestten 8 outlet heavy duty ETL certified power strip (plugged into inverter).
Covered, water port pass through with hose and multi-spray head.

Filling hose with filter.
HEATING and COOLING:
Furnace: PROPEX HS2000 Heatsource. Thermostat controlled in cabin. 6,500 BTU Externally vented propane heater. I have camped in 6 degrees in Vermont with this furnace keeping in a warm 75 degrees the entire time.
Front mounted twin (2) 25lb propane tanks with auto switch over regulator in a ruggedized storage box.
As noted above under factory options, there is a Climate Right 5000 unit that has been used once.
Awnings and Side rooms: This setup will easily sleep 4 people, or more if the Alu-cab area is utilized for sleeping. Both awnings are using Bomber Products Awn Locks which are some of the best in the business.
with optional sidewalls enclosure kit. This is a free-standing awning that does not need legs, but I have also added the three additional support legs for bad weather.

Samsung 28 inch 720p Smart LED TV, (w/ remote) mounted inside on galley wall, on swing out arm. Will rotate to side window.

Whirlpool .5 cubic foot Microwave (black) Will run off of battery bank through inverter.
Curtains with rods on all three windows. (simple cloth covering on door windows for privacy).
60/40 5” thick tri-fold mattress (black) that covers the full cabin or converted to chair. Each side is removable. There is a Twin and a Full size that make the 60-40 split to form just shy of a true queen size bed.
Sleeping space from front wall to interior galley wall is approximately 6’5". Galley adds approximately 16” of shelving depth plus small space for the door.
Thetford Curve Toilet with floor anchor. This is a completely sealed and contained unit that will lock to the floor while traveling and is removable when in camp. The unit is a no-mess operation and can be emptied into any bathroom or toilet, including pit or vault toilets. It has been used once.
120v flat power outlet in cabin that runs to the front wall. Used for powering laptops off of inverter.
Carbon Monoxide 10 year alarm. Mounted on rear galley wall.

There is also this video from two years ago. Note, that many of the upgrades were not added at this time. Also, yes, I know the sound on the video is terrible. I’ve heard it from 20,000 people commenting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkDzneE8ahc
